Our Water

Water is a vital step in brewing coffee. To taste your coffee's true potential and the form that we at Coco & Nibs wish you to taste it in, below is our step-by-step water recipe. From creating your concentrates to making your water solution, all the info you'll need can be found below. 

At Coco & Nibs Coffee, we use three minerals: Magnesium Sulfate, Magnesium Chloride, and Sodium Bicarbonate. Each mineral will adjust a characteristic in your final cup. 

Magnesium Chloride Concentrate (Hardness)
(MgCl2·6H2O)
Add 2.03g to 1L of Distilled Water 
Enhances Sweetness, Texture, Smoothness

Magnesium Sulfate Concentrate (Hardness)
(MgSO 4·7H2O)
Add 2.45g to 1L of Distilled Water
Enhances Complexity, Brightness, Intensity

Sodium Bicarbonate Concentrate (Buffer)
(NaHCO3)
Add 1.68g to 1L of Distilled Water 
Enhances Sweetness, Reduces Bitterness, Harshness

Our Water Solution Recipe

Weigh out 915g of Distilled Water into a glass container.
Add 40g of Magnesium Chloride Concentrate into Distilled Water.
Add 20g of Magnesium Sulfate Concentrate into Distilled Water. 
Add 15g of Sodium Bicarbonate Concentrate into Distilled Water. 
Stir until dissolved. 

Ppm = Parts Per Million (Unit of measurement that expresses the concentration of a substance dissolved in water)
GH = 70ppm
KH = 15ppm
Total Hardness = 85ppm
